Customs

It is recommended that you be familiar with the entrance requirements into this region. Be advised that you are entering a militarized zone and that local military are enforcing all primary border crossings. If you attempt to enter the area without the proper credentials you may be subject to arrest and will be handed over to customs officials. Also note that contraband items such as alcohol may be subject to confiscation. It is also common for border guards to seize food items, in some instances bribes have been demanded for entry into the region.

-As the military controls the border, it is not uncommon in times of heightened security for there to be searches of individuals or entire groups trying to enter the area.

-No, it is best to contact your NGO team leader and have them ask for assistance from a military official or local diplomatic staff. In some cases bribes have been paid to no avail. Some loss is accepted in this region of the world.
